31_days - DCW!Jackie and Valmont

I think my JCA characterizations are getting worse. Best watch some episodes this weekend, see if I can fix the problem.

Anyways, this was supposed to be posted yesterday, but I didn't finish it in time. Didn't feel like abandoning it, though, so I polished it up today for posting.

Title: Yin and Yang
Date/Theme: Oct. 18 'Tao'
Series: Jackie Chan Adventures
Characters: Valmont, Finn, Jackie
AU: DCW!Jackie and DCW!Valmont
Rating: PG-13

Finn stood uncomfortably against the wall while Valmont scratched arcane symbols onto Chan's skin. If he ignored the spectral fire, then maybe- No, even ignoring the spectral fire that trailed Valmont's fingertips, this was still creepy as sin. Hell, just about everything Valmont did was creepy as sin these days. Even Chan had looked like a more or less normal dark chi warrior. Something had blended with Valmont in the transformation spell - Finn's mind shied away from exactly what - so that he had red eyes and white hair, golden claws and white fangs. The slave-symbols on his skin glittered golden.

Chan slumped against the wall, eyes and slave-symbols dull, and ignored whatever mystical rites Valmont performed. Most of the time he seemed lost in the struggle to hold himself together, but if Valmont's claws ever flicked too close to his eyes, Chan broke the other man's wrist. Something jolted the life-draining bond connected to Finn each time.

"His chi is out of balance," Valmont announced suddenly, drawing back from Jackie.

Finn blinked. "... So, what are you going to do about it?"

"Nothing."

Finn looked worriedly at Chan, who hadn't so much as twitched. "Dude, why?"

Valmont stalked across the room, over the unpowered containment circle that hurt Finn's head to look at, and picked out one of Daolon Wong's spell books. "What do you expect me to do? Wave my hand and fix him? I hardly have the training to do such a thing, when even our dear master cannot."

"Demon chi'd make it worse," Chan rasped.

Valmont paused in flipping through the teaches and raised his eyes to look at the pained warrior. "Sometimes, Chan, I suspect you know more about what's going on than you're telling us. Then I realize that couldn't possibly be true, because you haven't told us how to fix you."

Jackie grimaced and slumped even further back into the wall. Valmont turned his attention back to the book he had chosen.

After a while, Finn shifted uncertainly. "So, um, Big V? Can I go?"

"Yes. Go, take him with you."

"That... won't be necessary." Chan flashed a pained smile, then abrubtly shattered. It started almost like a teleport, but then his chi unravelled and his body twisted-

Finn turned away before he started retching. He didn't dare look back until everything settled and the connection to Jackie went dead.

Valmont's mouth curled in revulsion, his eyes locked on the spot where Chan had been standing. "I hate it when he does that," he said almost absently. "I think he does it on purpose, really. He's certainly demonstrated his ability to hold himself together when he wishes to."

Finn stared at him, then mentally poked at the bond to Chan. "Dude, he hates it more than you do."

"But not, I suspect, for the same reasons." Valmont decisively flipped a page in the spell book, then drew his legs up so that he floated a few feet off the ground. He'd adapted really fast to the powers of a dark chi warrior. Creepy.
