First Lord's Fury

So I finished First Lord's Fury.

Non-spoilers: OMG, SO AWESOME! READ IT. READ IT NOW. Well, read the rest of the series first, then read this. EeeeeeeeEEEEEEE!!!

"Fidelias, behind you!"

Oh man, oh man. I'm really happy Mr. Butcher managed to find a way to handle Fidelias without doing a redemption through death. I like the character way too much. Lots of good scenes with him: him being Valiar Marcus, him working with Sha, the crucifixion, him working as Fidelias with Tavi, him going back to working as Valiar Marcus, and the epilogue.

The snark between High Lords Phrygius and Antillus was all kinds of amazing. Very, very sorry to see Phrygius die in the Queen's nest. (I kind of really want young!Phrygius and young!Antillus snark and angry hallway kisses.)

Mr. Butcher is not at all afraid to kill off characters. I cried when Ehren died. I was most distressed when Foss and High Lord Cereus died. Even if Cereus's death was possibly the most amazing since Gaius Sextus's.

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen me squeeing over Gaius Aquitaine Attis. That's because he seriously rocked all throughout the book. This is also about the only book where we actually see him on stage as a major player - it's mostly been Invidia off doing things. Not that she was missing at all from this book.

The serving of the divorce papers was just glorious. His proposal of marriage to Isana was also glorious.

Doroga, as ever, remains kriffing awesome. I am hopeful for another round of [livejournal.com profile] alera_ficathon just so I can ask for Doroga fic. Maybe Doroga/Isana. That would be cute.

The final battle with the Vord Queen. Oh man. Just... Oh man. There are very few words besides "zomg" and "squee!" to describe it, so I'm not even going to try right now.

Also, Master Marok is awesome. <3
