Advent #1: Chicago 25
And now we see why I said I'd do flashfics rather than drabbles.
Title: Chicago 25
Fandom: Stargate SG-1/Gargoyles
Characters: SG-1, Lexington, Brooklyn, Broadway, Goliath, Eliza, Hudson, Angela
Rating: G
Classification: Gen
---
Sam grinned as the green-skinned gargoyle pulled her by the hand out of the kitchen. She, Angela, and the teenaged Alexander had somehow wound up watching an impromptu cooking demonstration between Broadway and Jack. The eggnog was going to be very festive this year.
"You've got to see what Mr. Xanatos got us younger gargoyles for Christmas! Brooklyn nearly flipped!" Lexington told her cheerfully as he pushed open the door to the gargoyles' family room. Inside, there was a fire roaring away in the hearth, despite the castle having perfectly modern heating. Brooklyn and Teal'c were making s'mores, Goliath and Eliza were cuddling in a dark corner, and Daniel was raptly listening to Hudson tell stories. Mr. and Mrs. Xanatos had retired earlier that evening to their official Christmas party downstairs, but Brooklyn had drily commented that they'd be back. In the background, she could hear a particularly pretty, jazzed up version of "The Little Drummery Boy".
Lexington dropped to all fours and skittered over to the gaming cabinet next to the TV and threw it open. Sam peered curiously at the system he pulled out. "Is that a Playstation 3?"
"Yep!" Lexington grinned up at her as he began to hook it up. "'Course, it's got a few bugs still, but Xanatos's programmers are working to fix that. Especially since Brooklyn nearly flipped when he found out it couldn't play Guitar Hero 2."
"Hey!" The red gargoyle called from over by the fire.
Lexington grinned at his brother, then gestured Sam over to the box of games. Not so much a box anymore as a nicely organized set of shelves (a gift from Owen, years past), but the gargoyles still called it a box.
She picked out a game she didn't recognize that purported to be a two-player heroic quest to bring down the Dark Lord. "I don't think I've heard of this one before."
Lexington glanced at it and grinned. "Heh. Xanatos wants us to beta-test that, actually. He overhauled his video-game sub-corporation earlier this year, and he wants to have a good lineup for next spring."
He took it out of her hands as she sat down. In the background, the song changed to "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen".
Sam looked over the controller carefully while the game loaded.
"No rest. No mercy. No matter what," the sound-system intoned as the titles appeared on-screen.
The doors to the family room opened again, and in walked Jack and Broadway with the food. Angela brought up the rear with a large tray of eggnog and hot chocolate.
"I hear Chicago," Jack commented as he brought her and Lex bowls of the green, far too rich dessert he claimed was a family tradition. "Whatcha playing?"
"Pre-release of 'Broadsword and the Beast'." Sam smiled at him briefly before turning back to the serious matter of designing her character.
End
(Today's fandom and situation are from
karma_aster,
sapphirebreeze, and far too many musical references on my part. To suggest tomorrow's flashfic, comment on this entry.)
