Animated-Related Thought

What, exactly, does Prowl bring to a space bridge repair crew that it makes sense for him to be out there?

And does Prowl have any past besides 'has done martial arts sometime and somewhere'?

I've been waiting for an explanation almost since the series started. It doesn't even make sense in my mind for him to be security, really. Given what Jazz said about Prowl possibly not finishing his training, I'm kind of wondering if maybe he was somehow disgraced and booted out, like most of the rest were removed from their own training.

Rule of Cool - Ninjas add awesome to anything they're involved in.

Hopefully, if/when Season 3 comes, we'll see something about it.

Though there are a few episodes left, it could show up in them. Who knows...

Prowl was constructed on one of the colony worlds, but balked at the harsh conditions and life as a miner, and headed off to the Home System to seek his fortune. Unfortunately a slight recession was going on at the time and he soon became stranded with little employment, and begun running with a bad crowd. After a few years of violence and thuggery, he wanted out and turned to the police to give evidence - unfortunately, they requested he stay immersed in the gangs as their man on the inside. Thanks to him, dozens of arrests were made and Vos street crime was crippled.

Unfortunately, the extra years in that world caused mental damage and he became a hard-drinking, Syk-addicted, moody derelict, on a path to self destruction. He was saved by a Metallikato sensei, who gave him work at the dojo and forced him to take part in the classes. The discipline and meditation involved gave Prowl the inner peace he craved and he was able to move on from his past.

He became a champion at multiple fighting skills and trained younger robots from similar backgrounds to himself for a time. Eventually he decided he wanted to assist in the Space Bridge program, vital to the stability and prosperity of the Autobot race; he worked to become a technician and signed up for a crew, eager to improve his world.

Back home he was also in a gospel choir!

He brings plenty! He knows where the weak spot is!

Seriously, from how it's explained Space Bridge detail isn't terribly glamorous, but they need some degree of security detail. The Bridges are quite important to the Autobots, and given that the Decepticons would like the schematics that are stored on the ships, yeah. Someone who can fight would be useful. Supplement that with the ability to lift heavy things and you've got the perfect complement to a space bridge technician crew.

That's why they hired him. My theory is that he either took the gig because he wanted solitude or the chance to indulge his wanderlust. Given that he had apparently gone off to do his own thing when we're introduced to him, either option is valid.
