AU Meme

Give me an AU prompt, and I'll write you something of at least a hundred words. All AUs I've done before, except LaS, Assimilation, Flint, and DotM, can be requested. I might deny some prompts if they involve something plot-centric to the last part of "Bedrock".

Give a character name, then AU prompt. More details make me happy, though I can't promise I'll touch on everything in the prompt.

Three slots for everybody, five slots for [livejournal.com profile] dark_puck, [livejournal.com profile] spyridona, [livejournal.com profile] suzukiblu, and [livejournal.com profile] neldluva. Bonus slots are available if you request Zhao, Pakku, or Jeong Jeong.

I promise to answer at least one request.

MEME IS CLOSED.

- 'Xi', whore!verse; Ambition and curiosity; a dangerous combination. Xi finds out who his mother is.

- Younger!Zuko; Azula is the elder sibling, destined for the Throne. What does Zuko have to fight for?

- Female!Pakku; The trip was hard and you invited Firebenders, Bumi? Pakka hates you, you big, stupid, old jerk. Pre-Old Masters. Platonic cuddling.

- Iroh'n'Ozai; The Dragon and Phoenix hatched from the same nest. Preening and brotherly affection.

- Zhao. Avatar and Hellfire/X-Men fusion. Checkmate; feel free to give Zhao powers that suit if plain ol’ ‘Fire’ doesn’t inspire.

- Song/Ozai !Fae. The fae of the White Jade has his new gift. However, she is not happy and if she isn’t happy, no one is. Treat the ‘/’ as how you see fit.

- Jeong Jeong, AU Rome, Legatus; how can one throw away a senatorial ranking?

- Hakozai, AU Rome, not all men are equal. Dark as you may wish.

- Star Wars Avatar Fusion: Aang Solo decides that Princess Azula Organa is much scarier to deal with than Intergalactic Mafia.

... I swear I will stop adding now.

I mean it, this time.

I have no idea why… wait. I do have an idea why I’m so fond of Xi replying so silkly to Azulon. It’s an aspect on how he treated people he didn’t quite like without getting into trouble. A little hold over from whorehood.

So many lady-friends, so many broken hearts *koff*lu ten’s wife*koff*. At the least, Emi is a good girl and knows not to try and seduce her half brother. I’m a little surprised he’s 30, but somehow it seems fitting.

And I love the little hints scattered in this story, and I really want to meet ‘Mama’ one of these days.

Whore'verse: Xi finds out who his mother is. [repost]

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
The first bit of whore'verse is over here (http://the-pen-calls.livejournal.com/13224.html?thread=266920#t266920), for the curious.

For three years now, Xi has been Prince Lu Ten's boon companion. The dazzle of being freed from Ba Sing Se has started to fade. He has money - Lu Ten is generous, Xi's many lady-friends are generous. He could go anywhere, do anything.

He has been encouraged to, in fact. Firelord Azulon has spoken of setting him up wherever he would like to live in the Fire Nation. Xi has only smiled silkily and promised to revisit the matter when Admiral Jeong Jeong finishes teaching him how to properly firebend.

His presence is an embarrassment to the Firelord, a constant reminder of the man's infidelity. Xi is too close in looks to Azulon to be a grandson, too young to be one of the bastards he sired before his marriage, too old to be one sired after the Lady Ilah's death.

"Xi!" Emi, Seneschal Kajizu's daughter, latches onto his arm. She is a pretty little thing, a good fourteen years his junior. Barely a woman herself, and he has seen signs that she would like to seduce him but doesn't quite dare.

They are half-siblings through their father.

"Emi," he replies warmly, smiling down at her. He does sometimes wish he could use his own name, but it is not appropriate for him to use that name here.

("Oh, my little foundling," his mama scolded as she pulled him out of the koi pool. "Don't chase koi-boys into the water. You won't catch them, and you'll just get wet.")

"Are you still going to come to Lady Kayo's party tomorrow night?" She asks. "A fairytale masquerade, can you imagine?"

"Yes. That's why we have the matching masks, remember?" He lightly blows sparks at her, and she retaliates against his teasing by tugging on his growing beard.

"We'll be the best pair in the party," she says smugly. "A phoenix and a bandit, hah! Though, you could have just gone as yourself and you would have fit in fine with the theme."

"What do you mean by that?" Xi asks, curious. Emi is a bit of an odd young woman, but she usually makes sense.

"Just you being one of Azulon's bastards, and you're almost the same age as the infant prince would have been if he lived," she says blithely. "Then the whole thing with being stolen by Earth Kingdom pirates from your mother and sold into slavery..."

"Almost the same age?" Xi asks in puzzlement. "I'm barely twenty-six, Emi. Prince Iroh is almost fifty. I can't imagine his brother would have been much younger."

"Oh, of course he was! Lady Ilah didn't become pregnant with Prince Ozai until over twenty years after she had Prince Iroh."

("Come and sit with me, my Ozai," Mama said, "while I tell you the story of the Robber and the Phoenix's Egg.")

Bonus: Drow AU: Hakoda and Ozai get to know each other

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-04-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Previously on Avatar (http://beckyh2112.livejournal.com/378703.html?thread=3155023#t3155023)...

There is a light. It's faint, so faint that Hakoda would have missed it if he had been home in the woods. Here, in the dead darkness of the Underdark, it's shockingly bright.

He reaches up to finger the iron collar that marks his slavery and lets him see in the pitch black. Pain nips at his fingers, but it's a pain he's used to. There is no rattling warning in his bones that this is a place he must not go.

He'd have ignored it even if there was.

His tread is quiet as a cat's as he climbs the last spiral stairs to the top of this spike. As he rounds the curve of the stair, the light brightens and brightens. He squints, but his eyes adjust.

It makes him snarl that his eyes even need to adjust to such little light.

The light spills out of an open doorway at the top of the stair. He steps into the doorway, eyes widening.

The mutilated drow, the one whose name no one uses, sprawls in a chair with a book. A bare handful of candles are lit, hardly enough for Hakoda to have used at home to read by. But here, in the Underdark, their light is so much more than they had been in the shadowed woods.

The drow lifts his head, eyes widening in startlement.

He was expecting someone else, Hakoda thinks.

Yes. I was.

The drow's will hits like a hammer, and Hakoda staggers. It feels like steel spikes being driven into his brain, almost as bad as a mind-flayer as the drow rummages through him-

Ozai. My name is Ozai. And I learned from illithids.

A memory is plucked to the fore, of the black bitch as she mounted Hakoda, the pleasure on her face. It is examined, twisted, then Hakoda's knees hit the floor as he's blasted with pain.

He doesn't know how he manages to smirk. "Jealous?"

Ozai's rage leaves him insensate.

The psion drow pleases Spyri! *Nuzzles pretty, pretty mutilated Ozai.*

I enjoy how Hakoda is raging for adjusting to the alien world of Drow, I like how he's still stubborn and so damned hard to break. (I am sure this pleases the matron in one sense. The 'girl' he will truly bless her with shall have a will of iron.)

I am not quite sure if Strong Willed Copper elf pleases Ozai or not. Well, in nine months it will.

*May have to steal your ship icon one of these days*

Bonus: Drow AU: Iroh/Zolena

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-04-23 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dawn found Iroh already awake, brewing tea for his wife. The winter had been hard, harder on her than any previous winter. She coughed all the time now, and she seemed so weak and frail.

He didn't entirely know what to make of it. So he made tea brimming with honey and cream.

"Zolena," he said softly as he helped her sit up to take the tea. Her hair was as white as his now, and he wasn't sure when in the last three decades that change had taken place. First had been a few strands here and there, then streaks, then all of her dark hair was gone entirely.

Her skin seemed delicate, frail, pulled tight over her bones so her hands looked like moths. But she still smiled, though, and smiled at him.

"Iroh," she murmured after taking a long drink of tea. "Where's Lu Ten? I want to see my son before I die."

"Die?" He asked in confusion, brows knitting together. "You're not going to die. I won't let anyone kill you."

Zolena laughed, but her laughter transformed into a coughing fit that wracked her body. "Such a drow," she said when she could speak again. "Even after all these years on the surface, you still think murder's the only way people die."

He wrapped his arms around her and held her, nosing at her hair gently.

"I'm human," Zolena said gently, pressing her lips against his throat. "Humans don't live as long as elves."

Oih. Sniff. This is truly beautiful. I love the way Iroh is confused at her aging and the fact there are other ways to die than by murder...

This 'verse always hurts me a bit (a lot) because I would love to see Zuko to get friendship and stand as an equal, but I've already partly accepted that it won't happen.

Lu Ten is a half-elf? (is that the right term? I don't know what it is in English...) Way too cool.

This bonus was for me? *flails and gets to commenting*

I like how tea is still slipped in to this; a cure for all ills and the heaping of cream and honey. Delicious tea will solve the problems.

What I adore most though? How Iroh doesn't seem to care she ages, she is still lovely and beautiful and wonderful and he still adores her. Wonderful how you capture the beauty and tragedy of elf/human relationships in this.

Bonus: Shi Kai and Long Feng

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-04-25 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
The Minister is enjoying himself. There is a certain bounce in his step, a smile playing at the edge of his mouth.

The Dai Li captain walking beside him looks unhappy. Most people wouldn't notice it, How suspects, but the key with reading Liu has always been to watch his eyes. Right now, the mute captain's eyes are narrowed as he paces along between the outer edge of the wall and the Cultural Minister.

General How rather regrets the end of the war in some ways. Without a common enemy to unite its people or a powerful Earth King to hold it together, the Earth Kingdom is splintering. Even now, some of the wilder peoples of the Earth Kingdom test the walls of Ba Sing Se.

And that smile lurks at the edge of the Minister's mouth like it has for days since General Shi Kai instigated that fight. The barbarian had torn rocks from the streets and buildings, hurled his earthbending might at Long Feng like he was a Fire Nation man dueling.

Long Feng had fought back. Long Feng had smiled, and he hadn't quite stopped smiling.

"He's a barbarian," How reminds the Minister. "He undermines the authority of Ba Sing Se and the Earth King."

"Indeed," Long Feng says smoothly. "You are entirely correct. We'll have him brought in chains and paraded through the streets before a quiet execution in a courtyard."

But there is still a sparkle in his eyes that wasn't there before, and still that smile lurks in the edge of his mouth.

"You abducted the emperor."

Cheng stared at the older man laid out neatly in his father's tent. The dark green robes were dirtied and torn, though it looked like someone had straightened how they fell on the man. Blood matted his dark hair, and his eyes moved underneath his lids. The man dreamed.

Which was better than being awake, because then they might be able to return him before he awoke.

His father grinned and petted the man's long braid. "Not the emperor. Just a high-ranking minister."

"As good as emperor!" Cheng snapped. "Long Feng is as good as emperor, and you know it!"

Being Shi Kai's eldest son is never a fun thing. Cheng goes 'woe' and sighs at his father and his father's impulses. Apparently, Cheng's mother had a very level head on her shoulders.

*strokes the General* He can see the possibilities in keeping the Good-As-Emperor.

Bonus: Bumi/Pakku

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Man, my Bumi-voice sucks tonight.

"It's too hot," the Water Tribe youth complained. No, not a youth, he'd bitched like a noblewoman with a broken comb when Bumi had called him that earlier. He was a man, never mind he was young enough to be the earthbender's own son.

Pakku's heavy parka hit the floor of Bumi's bedroom, and the earthbender wondered what possessed him to keep the waterbender here.

Oh, right, the youth didn't like anyone else, and he was upset enough over the Fire Nation skirmishes, high-strung enough over whatever had dragged him out of the North in the first place, and powerful enough to be very, very dangerous. He didn't trust anyone except Bumi, and putting him by himself seemed like a shot of dumb idea with a bad plan chaser. Not the fun kind, either.

"Still too hot," Pakku grumbled, unbuttoning the lighter jacket he wore underneath his parka. That and his boots soon hit the floor, and he flopped down on the bed. He wriggled as he tried to get comfortable, black hair fanning out around his head.

'Of all the luck to get a boy,' one of his guards had complained. 'Water Tribe women move like nothing else, and I haven't seen one since I was sixteen.'

Water Tribe men, it turned out, moved like nothing else either. Bumi hadn't quite realized how- not like anyone else Pakku moved when they'd been fighting.

"Hot!" Pakku said again, fumbling at his belt buckle. That came undone in a flash of silver, then he slithered out of his pants to reveal another set.

"... How many layers are you wearing?" Bumi asked, propping himself up on one elbow to look at the youth.

"Only two," Pakku replied absently. "Agh, why is it so hot? It wasn't this hot on the trail!"

He pulled his shirt off over his head, revealing wraps of white cloth covering his chest and arms. Then he slithered out of his second pair of pants, and Bumi could see that the cloth-wraps went down the Water Tribe youth's legs and protected his modesty.

Well, as much as wrapped cloth could protect modesty.

Which was enough to give Bumi a pretty good guess as to what the Water Tribe ladies would be enjoying whenever Pakku got back there.

Bumi stretched and turned over in the bed, putting his back to the Water Tribe youth. His eyes were wide in the dark, and he tried to ignore the rustle of cloth as Pakku settled on top of the covers.

Aang had kissed him once, he recalled. He'd looked at the other boy oddly; they'd been busy and Aang definitely wasn't a girl. But Pakku wore his hair long and he moved differently than Earth Kingdom men did. It was- confusing bits of him into thinking of the youth as a girl.

He needed to convince the boy to have his own room. Some possibilities he shouldn't open his brain to, not at all.

For some reason, I am enamored with whining Pakku. And the whining Pakku who does not quite get personal space. Though I don't think the second one would be an issue of social ineptitude. Rather, it would be more of an issue of survival, people in very cold places should share beds.

This idea does not work well in places such as Omashu.

This is cute, you crazy shipper, you. <3

Bonus: You Know Why

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-05-01 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The great wooden doors ignite.

The generals startle, the guards rush forward. The sages raise their own firebending to steal the red flames.

Azulon waits.

The charred black doors are flung open, other guards at the Second Prince's side. Not hindering, not helping.

Not obviously.

The polished floor blackens from heat as the Second Prince walks forward. Dark hair spills unbound and smoking, frames a face contorted with some emotion beyond sanity.

"My son," He flings the words at Azulon.

Azulon looks at the wild, dark creature that Ilah bore. He tries to find something in him, something besides the truth that he should have smothered this one in the cradle too.

He cannot.

"The line of the Avatar is broken," Azulon said, and a low moan ran through his sages.

The Second Prince stares up at Azulon, and Azulon sees his own gold eyes in the man's face. He sees the moment when the veil is torn wide behind them-

He braces for a lightning strike.

Killing the Second Prince will upset Iroh, but even his son cannot argue that attacking the Firelord is anything but treason.

The Second Prince turns on his heel and stalks out of the throne room. Lightning crackles and snarls in his hair, around his hands, down his spine.

For the first time in many years, Azulon finds himself disquieted.

Younger!Zuko; Azul is the elder sibling, destined for the throne. What does Zuko have to fight for?

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka heard muffled voices on the other side of the hatch. Quickly, he rolled to his feet, then had to pause to nearly hack up his lungs. The sickness was still in him, might never leave, but he was getting better day by day.

Katara wasn't.

He sometimes thought Katara didn't want to, not after they lost Aang.

The locking wheel turned and the door was pushed open. A Fire Nation boy Katara's age stood there. He wore armor as fine as the princess's, but unlike hers and all the adult's, his was pulled up into a high horsetail. Maybe it was the light, though, but he looked an awful lot like Azula.

"They are just Water Tribe," one of the two old women said, reaching for the boy's shoulder.

"Of no interest," added the other.

"They're the Avatar's companions," the boy said softly. "That makes them interesting."

"Zuko!" the princess bellowed, anger roiling like the blue in her flames. "What are you doing on my ship?"

For a flash of an instant, the boy looked annoyed. Then he put a smile on his face and turned towards the oncoming princess.

Her armor was gleaming and glossy, her hair perfectly arranged in a topknot, her lipstick the precise shade of red to make a man think of blood. She should have been gorgeous, but all Sokka could think was that she was scary.

"I came to see what happened," Zuko replied, his voice suddenly more childish and young-sounding. "Father's so mad at you, and he's never mad at you."

Anger hardens the princess's expression. "Admiral Zhao captured the Avatar with the Yu Yan archers. It is to the glory of the Fire Nation that he was captured at all. Now I can turn to more important matters, such as the conquest of Ba Sing Se."

Zuko's head bobbed in acknowledgment, then he reached out to clasp his sister's forearm. "Don't worry, Azula. I'll get the Avatar for you."

She laughed in his face.

"Lee," Hakoda fairly spits as the Fire general steps into the light.

It is the man who called himself Lee, the man Admiral Zhao claimed was Prince Ozai. The dragon-tongue beard is the same, if more neatly-groomed, and those mad golden eyes are unchanged.

His hair is pulled up into a Fire Nation-style topknot now, though, and he wears a Fire Nation general's armor.

There are five purple scars on his face, one on the right cheek and the other four ranging high across his forehead and around his left eye.

"Hakoda," he murmurs, and the voice is exactly the same.

Hakoda lunges forward, teeth snapping, hate black and bloody in his chest. The chains jerk him up short, then the Fire soldiers haul him back by the shoulders. Gauntlet-covered fists slam into him, and he can barely open his eyes when "Lee" says enough.

"A general," Hakoda sneers, blood dribbling from his mouth. "Bato knew you were a liar and spy from the beginning."

"He was wrong," Lee says flatly, and a mutter of surprise sweeps through the gathered soldiers.

Hakoda squints up at Lee. "... What happened to your face?"

"My brother put lightning through me," Ozai says, and Hakoda's eyes go wide as he realizes the purple scars exactly fit where the fingers of a hand would seize the Fire man's face.
