Ganked from Various People

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Upon request, I will post a random line or two from any of these you choose. Assuming that the file adds up to a full line, that is.

Feel free to pick another one after I answer your first bit, and feel free to ask for something someone else has asked for.

I've actually left out the files that consist solely of a title and a few notes.

oraclezuko, because I am still anxiously waiting for more of that fic. :D

The Firelord's visit hardly disrupted the routine of First Shrine. Two days after he burned the map, Zuko was back in the rhythms he had lived with since Mother took flight to the Earth Kingdom. He rose with the dawn, ate a simple meal of rice topped with salted salmon and miso soup, then went to his firebending training. He trained with the temple's acolytes, and he was expected to keep up with them. None of them were as expected to be as skilled or as powerful as a royal prince, though, and he sometimes smoldered with anger that he was stuck with them.

Nice! :D I like the image of Zuko training with the people who live in the temple. Zuko's frustration, though, is understandable. I think it's interesting that this Zuko isn't clamouring for his father's affection; it seems to make him more confident in himself and his skills. (Or is it the other way around, that his confidence means that he doesn't need his father's approval to feel self-worth?)

*amused* You can tell all that about Zuko's relationship with his father from one paragraph?

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
No, I was ruminating on the other parts of the fic already posted...

I MEAN YES I AM INCREDIBLY PERCEPTIVE

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I have posted any other parts of this fic. Not that I can remember.

This is Oracle!Zuko, isn't it? Or is it an entirely different universe?

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
It is. I still haven't posted any other parts of this fic that I can remember.

Neither of those are part of this fic. Just because I've written a meme-bit does not mean it is part of a full-blown story. In fact, meme-bits are usually composed entirely on the fly and don't have to go through me hashing out backstory and forestory the way fics do.

What Spyri wrote, while awesome, has gotten less and less relevant to what I'm writing here, too, since I needed different motivations for Zuko in order to make this story work.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I got them all muddled in my head. ;)

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's all right. It's something I was going to put up as an author's note, though probably not so wordily.

But when I am doing a full story of something, I have to hack it out to make sense rather than just writing whatever sounds interesting for a meme prompt. So there tends to be a certain gulf between meme-responses in a world and full stories in a 'verse. Sometimes I can fit them all together, sometimes not.

[identity profile] beboots.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally fair. A good long fic takes some world building, you know? That's what I'm wrestling with at the moment with this time travel Harry Potter fic. Plot, oh plot...

[identity profile] beckyh2112.livejournal.com 2011-02-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Plot is sometimes the devil. >_>
