Azula stalked in a tight circle, not a single hair out of place but every single one of her ki-paths blazing. She must be furious, Zuko thought, because ki-paths were almost impossible to see even when things were perfect.

"We must join Admiral Zhao's expedition! I need to fetch the Avatar home, not that self-satisfied peasant!"

Uncle Iroh sat in the corner of Azula's cabin, fingering a pai sho tile. He lifted tired eyes to his neice and set down the tile without looking. "The walls of the Northern Water Tribe have withstood us for a century, Azula. The admiral would require an extraordinary plan to breach the city quickly enough in order to take the Avatar. No, it will be a bloody, costly siege, and the Avatar will flee before the city falls."

"He protects people!" Azula snapped. "He'll stay and fight!"

"Like he did at Kyoshi?" Mai asked as she studied the pai sho board.
