After the incident, three years before Unicron, where Reflector lost one of his components in an unexplained accident during tunnel-exploration, I built him a replacement component as required.

Generally, in such cases, a simple transformation and joining with his new component will ignite the laser-core inside of the newly built component. This time, however, the lasercore inexplicably did not ignite. Everything else passed through normally so that the component was capable of everything Reflector's bodies are normally capable of, but it was not 'alive'.

We performed many tests, as did Shockwave's scientists, but could not determine why this happened.

Reflector, for his part, never seemed entirely comfortable with the new component. Hook theorized that the difference between a 'living' component and the drone he had was similar to replacing an organic limb with a prosthetic - they might perform the same functions, but the prosthetic would never be a native part of the host body.

Man, that would be super weird. I mean, trying to imagine being one mind in multiple bodies is weird, but having one of them be sort of... dead would be all kinds of weirder.

It certainly sounds interesting! I wonder if the horror part was supposed to be with the dead component, or in the mysterious accident that resulted in the loss of a component... and was possibly related to why a laser core wouldn't take in the new one.
