The Fashion Show
Jun. 11th, 2009 04:40 pmLast night, I wound up watching a reality show over Cyn's shoulder. It is a group of fashion designers on Bravo TV, competing against each other to produce "real fashion for real women". Addictively fascinating.
Some of the designers are really good. Reco is my personal favorite - he's an ass, but he's a good fashion designer. Daniella, Lidia, and Angel are also in the running - they're good, competent designers and they don't actively annoy me by saying stupid things.
The most recent episode did annoy me a lot. The challenge this week was for designers to make a dress that would flatter the body shape of a specific "average" woman. A number of the designers were very whiny about this. Dudes, designing for models is easy. Don't get whiny for being asked to do something actually difficult.
Reco and Daniella did an amazing job. Angel kind of failed but she failed in a spectacular way. The guy who went home failed but he failed with something that was boring and average.
That was the same thing that sent someone home last week. The lesson here is obvious: don't be boring with what you create.
