GI Joe Resolute
Apr. 24th, 2009 01:07 amHasbro has committed awesome. Or one of their subsidiaries has committed awesome, and they're using it to further their diabolical toy-selling agenda. Either way, Warren Ellis wrote a sixty minute, aimed at adults GI Joe story that's called GI Joe Resolute.
Now, Warren Ellis is not a GI Joe man. He is, at best, passingly familiar with the property. Which means he's almost ideal to write this, because he's not bogged down in nostalgia and fan-wankery. He has a story to tell, and he's not afraid to sacrifice people to the needs of the plot. And since this is specifically designed for an older audience, killing people is perfectly acceptable.
He manages to make GI Joe very heroic, actually, without making them jingo-istic. They're military, and they act like it. Very awesome. Also, unfortunately for various Cobra redshirts, often lethal.
Cobra Commander is made of so very much win, I want to keep him forever. He's got the nice reflective mask going on instead of the blue hood, thankfully. Plus his dialogue - guh. This is a man you do not want to mess with.
All of the named Cobra people are quite awesome in this and very unpleasant people.
This is a great GI Joe cartoon. It is pretty much perfect for what I want out of GI Joe. Also, the first ten parts are freely available on Youtube. Episodes are in five minute chunks, with the entire thing plus the final ten minutes to air on Adult Swim April 25th at midnight. Hopefully the final ten minutes will hit Youtube not that long thereafter, as I lack a functioning tv at home.
