Background: Avalon is the name for the first surface human city in DegSep. I liked it, so I snagged it.

This was written to exorcise some plotbunnies about Jean, Anderson, and the Merovingian. It evolved into a writing experiment - could I write a ficlet where the mood and Jean's actions revealed what he was thinking?

There are only two places where Jean's thoughts are revealed in this ficlet. I personally think that's two too many, but I couldn't find a way to impart that information without using Jean's thoughts. I'm not entirely sure how much they add to the story, either.

To my readers: Please give me feedback on what the mood and the characters' actions tell you about what is going on in their heads. I know what happened, but I would like to know how well I imparted that. (Hell, I'd like to know how well I set up the mood of the story.

There is also a bonus question at the end of the ficlet. *grins*

The reason I'm not posting this to the DegSep community is that this hasn't been roleplayed out yet, and this set of events may never come to pass. There's also no real title, but I like this song and I think it will work.
